If you’re reading this on October 23, the WoW Forever beta window has just closed. Blizzard extended the test originally scheduled to end on October 21 to 8 p.m. European time on October 23. That means you take nothing out of the beta: characters, names, and progress will all be wiped at launch, and everyone restarts at level 1 on November 4. Every card on the roadmap is a deadline. What matters now isn’t nostalgia for the test server—it’s getting the next six weeks organized.
First, the question most easily overlooked: beta characters do not carry over
Blizzard has not designed any data inheritance rules for the Forever beta. All test characters will be deleted when the game launches on November 4, and character names will be wiped too. The only mitigation window is early name reservation, which opens on October 27: players who buy the Skyborne Epic Pack or a higher-tier bundle can create and name up to three characters, first come, first served.
So the planning logic is simple: treat the beta as a trial ground, and treat name reservation as your first real decision point. You don’t need to “raise” anything in the beta. You only need to decide before October 27 which three characters you’ll start with and what names you want.
The hard dates on the roadmap: November 4 and December 9
Every 2026 milestone on the WoW Forever roadmap has a firm date; 2027 only gets seasonal windows labeled “Spring” and “Summer.” Right now there are only two you really need to watch:
November 4, 3:00 p.m. Pacific, global launch. You don’t need to buy the expansion first; game time or a subscription gets you in. If you buy the Epic or Collection edition, it comes with 30 days of game time; after that, you’ll need to renew your subscription or buy a WoW Token. This is also the first point at which WoW gold becomes meaningful in Forever: in the early days, auction-house supply is thin, and prices for profession materials, bags, and early gear enchants are usually at their highest point of the whole version cycle. If you plan to be self-sufficient through the in-game economy, the gathering and crafting window in the first two weeks is worth more than any period after raids open.
December 9, three level-60 raids unlock at the same time. From November 4 to December 9 is only five weeks—that’s your entire window to go from level 1 to 60 and put together a raid-ready gear set.
The three December 9 raids: the official details are specific enough
When the original roadmap was revealed, there was debate over whether Onyxia’s Lair counted as a “new raid” or a “remastered old raid.” The official raid preview on October 20 made it clear, and the division of labor among the three raids is very specific:
| Raid | Size | Boss count | Location | Key gate |
| Barrow Deeps | 10-player | 8 bosses | Inside Mount Hyjal, with an entrance connecting Hyjal, Winterspring, and Blackmaw Hold | No special key |
| Hyjal Summit | 20-player | 13 bosses | The summit of Mount Hyjal, near the World Tree Nordrassil | No special key; nonlinear, multi-path progression after the first boss |
| Onyxia’s Lair | 40-player | Classic three-phase encounter | Dustwallow Marsh | Everyone must carry the Drakefire Amulet |
Barrow Deeps is designed as the prison where Illidan was held for ten thousand years; a 10-player group faces 8 bosses. Hyjal Summit’s 13 bosses let the raid choose different routes after the first guardian. Onyxia is a standard 40-player fire-resistance check, and the Drakefire Amulet requires a faction-specific attunement questline that begins with “Dragonkin Menace” in Burning Steppes.
Within five weeks, you need to level, build gear, and complete at least one—usually two—attunement questlines at the same time. If you’re planning to use RestedXP, its Forever guide is currently $30 for one faction / $45 for both, with levels 1–20 free, and its Speedrun route is designed from day one around quest order, travel paths, and Hearthstone usage. It isn’t cheap, but the time it saves is exactly the extra attunement and dungeon-farming window you get before December 9. Likewise, if you’re considering using WoW gold to shorten certain steps—buying BoE gear outright, buying materials to level professions, or buying consumables—now is the time to watch Cheap WoW gold channel pricing, not the week before the December raids open, when demand concentrates and your options actually narrow.
Hardcore isn’t a launch-day item; it’s a “winter 2026/27” item
The “Hardcore” card on the roadmap has no specific date—only “winter.” Blizzard confirmed one thing in the BlizzCon Deep Dive: in Forever, a dead Hardcore character can choose to transfer to a PvP ruleset, unlike previous Classic Hardcore, where the only option was PvE. After death, Legacy Points and collectibles also transfer with the character to your chosen ruleset.
This means Hardcore in Forever isn’t positioned as “permanent deletion” but as “continue playing on a normal ruleset after death.” For players who want Hardcore as their main mode but don’t want a single death to wipe everything, this ruleset is much gentler than Classic Hardcore. But the date remains vague: between winter 2026 and early 2027, the official promise is only that it’s coming, not when.
The 2027 content cadence: one spring wave and one summer wave
The spring 2027 cards include two new raids (10- and 20-player), two new dungeons, new quests and zones, a new legendary questline, and a PvP season refresh. Summer 2027 adds a remastered iconic raid, one new raid, expanded world content, two new dungeons, and updates to professions and the Legacy system. If you use the common 10–12 week cadence seen in Retail and Classic progression, spring 2027 would land around early March and summer around late May to early June. But these are estimates, not dates Blizzard has announced.
At launch, there will be nine new dungeons, with two more added in spring 2027 and two more in summer 2027. If all are delivered, the total will reach 13 by the end of summer 2027. Blizzard hasn’t announced the names of the later dungeons or a total cap.
One community take is worth hearing, but don’t treat it as an official plan
Khalma’s analysis describes Forever’s roadmap as “horizontal development”: the focus is on set bonuses, trinkets, and class balance adjustments so class gameplay changes each phase, rather than simply inflating stat numbers. He also judges that stat inflation will eventually be hard to avoid, and expects the gaps between raids to give players enough time to develop alts. To be clear, this is one player’s analysis, not a Blizzard design document. There are also opposing discussions on the official forums arguing that Forever’s vertical progression will be very slow, but it will still exist. Either way, the practical meaning for ordinary players is the same: don’t expect to gear-carry your way into raids within five weeks; levels, attunement, and basic consumables are the most certain gates before December 9.
Where MMOEXP fits on your reference list
If you’re making a checklist right now—reserve names on October 27, level hard on November 4, get raid-ready before December 9—then the choice of third-party resources should be reviewed on the same cadence. RestedXP’s Forever guide solves leveling efficiency; choosing between WoW gold and Cheap WoW gold solves the economic pressure of early-material buying and raid prep. Before deciding which one to use, it’s worth taking a look at MMOEXP’s breakdown of WoW Forever gold flows, consumable price trends by phase, and third-party channel pricing. It won’t decide for you whether to buy, but the frame of reference it gives you is enough to make an informed call between November 4 and December 9—rather than rushing an order on the second-to-last day before raids open.
The questions the roadmap didn’t answer are still open: whether Onyxia’s Lair reuses the classic design or is rebuilt in Forever, the full list of the eventual 13 dungeons, and the exact Hardcore date within the winter window. But the remaining six weeks of 2026 can be planned clearly without those answers: lock in your names on October 27, start leveling on November 4, and walk into Dustwallow Marsh with your Drakefire Amulet on December 9.
